Swapnasri Sarangi, a post-graduate in Social Work from the Tata Institute of Social Services (TISS) and Post Graduate in History from Hyderabad Central University, has been working with Foundation for Ecological Security(FES) for better governance and management of Commons like forests, water, land, and other life forms for the past 25 years. She has been working with the rural communities including youth and women of Odisha in crafting and strengthening community institutions for better governance of natural in the state. She has also led multi disciplinary teams of professionals for implementation of large-scale projects around nature conservation, climate action, local governance and livelihood improvement. Her experiences of working on the ground helped her have a nuanced understanding of the social, ecological, economic, and political spaces that impact the governance and management of Commonly held natural resources in the state of Odisha and other states. She uses this understanding to liaison with government officials in the state and across for creation of an enabling ecosystem. She has also been involved in building collaborations with partner organisations for furthering the work on Commons and issues related to Natural Resource Governance. She has been part of several networks, committees and forums who are engaged on issues around nature conservation, gender inclusion and climate action. She is currently working as the Gender, Diversity and Inclusion Head of FES.
