Dr. Shijo Joseph is currently heading the Climate Resilience and Environment Management Centre at the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Kochi. He worked as a Senior Scientist at the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI), Thrissur before moving to his current position at KUFOS. He authored more than 60 research articles in international and national journals and holds editorial positions in leading scientific journals in the field of climate change and environmental sustainability. He also acts as an Expert Member in several international and national bodies including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and a delegate to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Dr. Joseph was trained in the premier institutes in India and abroad. This includes Mahatma Gandhi University, National Center for Earth Science Studies (Trivandrum), Wildlife Institute of India (Dehradun), ISRO-National Remote Sensing Center (Hyderabad), ATREE (Bangalore) in India and the institutes in UK, Sweden, Poland and the Netherlands. He had received prestigious scholarships from European Union as well as from Cambridge University. He served the United Nations-affiliated office for international forestry research for five years, traveled to more than 30 countries, and conducted climate change studies in South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. The Government of Kerala awarded him the Best Environment Researcher of the State Award (2019) for his contribution to environmental and climate change research.
