Dr Nulkar is a Professor and Director of Centre for Sustainable Development, Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics, Pune, and a visiting professor at IIT Kanpur.

His area of research includes challenges to sustainable development in India. He was the Post-doctoral Endeavour Fellow of the Government of Australia.

He is an author of eight books, research papers, monographs, and articles;

He is a recipient of Maharashtra State Literature award and Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad awards.

Gurudas is on the board of Ecological Society, Pune, and ACWADAM.

He is a Senior Fellow of Pune International Centre.
